World Yoga Day, celebrated annually on June 21st, was established by the United Nations in 2014 to promote global awareness of the many benefits of practising yoga. Yoga, an ancient practice with origins in India, integrates physical, mental, and spiritual disciplines to achieve a state of holistic health and well-being.
Yoga offers numerous physical benefits, including improved flexibility, strength, and balance. This holistic practice incorporates mindfulness and meditation techniques that enhance mental clarity and emotional stability. It is known to reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, promoting a sense of inner peace and calm. This art makes students relaxed and patient and controls negative emotions such as anger and aggression.
At White Lotus International School we celebrated this day by practising asanas, a fundamental part of yoga, performed in a sequence that flows together to create a comprehensive workout. Our students enthusiastically participated in this activity as they knew the importance and worldwide acceptance of this traditional Indian art that fosters humanity and unity.
